Hi Graz I ve been a member of BMI for years and not found them beneficial in anyway other than having the org listed. Any insights as to the benefits each PRO offers and how they differentiate in services offered. I am missing something, I think.

I supply music to production music libraries for sync and that requires membership of a PRO, but I don’t publish so I’m a member of only one PRO. Therefore, I don’t know much about other PROs and can’t tell you how they differ. They all collect broadcast/performance data within the country they represent and pay their members (writers and publishers) performance royalties calculated using their own somewhat secret formulae. They also share that data with all the other PROs under a reciprocal agreement so that (in theory) everyone can be paid regardless of the broadcast/performance country or their PRO/country. Ultimately, you get paid a vaguely similar amount regardless of which PRO you’re a member of, provided you’re a member of one somewhere. Consequently, my royalty statements show broadcasts across the globe, and for me that’s a huge benefit. YMMV.

Related to all this helpful information. Does anyone have any insight into the publishing ins and outs regarding sync music and production music libraries?
Do libraries require the ability to license publishing or can you use a separate publisher?
What is best practice?
I’m a bit nervous about tripping myself up with a bad decision at this stage which I’ll regret later.
