Hi all,
I tried to post this in help/support but they don’t seem to allow posts there. I opened a support ticket but not sure how to resolve the issue. Basically I have two Macs that were purchased before realizing that you cannot add ram later to M1+ Macs.
MacBook Pro M1 is being used as a server (I just recently tried to do this) using VSL Pro Server. My Mac mini M1 is where I am running Cubase,
I want to load all my samples from the server template.
The samples themselves are stored on SSDs (external).
How do I install the Crow Hill plugin on the MacBook Pro (I have them all, they are wonderful) without having to do a 2nd installation of all the samples?
I find it hard to believe that you must have double installations of everything to make it work.
Can I not install just the plugins and then point them at the folder where the large sample files are stored open the SSDs?
Many thanks to anyone who can help!
David
PS I seem to have actually managed to post in Help/Support, my apologies.
I think the SSD with the samples has to be connected to the computer with the plugins on it.
So either native on your Mini
or
via VE Pro on your MBP
There may be a way of having the plugins on both machines and the SSD on a network that all computers can access buts that’s above my understanding.
Hope that helps
Lee
Just re-read your post
Install everything on your MBP (once) then access it via the VE Pro plugin on your mini.

Will try this but first trying to avoid installing all the samples - Spitfire BBCSO for example, will wipe out my internal SSD on the MBP. Will post later when I get things working.
Thank you for helping!
David
Hey David! Hopefully you’ve got this sorted by now?
If i’m understanding your issue - you have an external SSD with the Crow Hill libraries (samples) already installed.
This SSD is plugged into your MacBook Pro M1 which is using VSL ProServer and is networked in some way to your Primary MacMini M1.
how are these two connected? via ethernet? Or thunderbolt? If ethernet is there an ethernet switch that is between the two computers?
Youre using Cubase as your DAW on the MacMini M1, yes?
Where are the CrowHill plugins currently installed? Not the samples/libary, just the plugins? On the MacMini M1? or on the MacBook Pro?
My understanding is that the installation process has to put the files where they belong, so you might have to re-install everything.
When you do this there is a dialog box during installation that allows you to direct where you want samples/large files placed.
EDIT:
If you do reinstall the CrowHill libraries, this shouldn’t affect your Spitfire files at all.
You will have to be dilligent about where you install the samples/large files though, and then you can delete the folder(s)/files that you’re not using.
Hey Jon! Good to see you here
I got it working thanks to more selfless help from Doug LeBow
But here are some answers:
Yes. Connected via ethernet. (Had to get a USBc to ethernet adaptor because the hub I got didn’t include one).
Cubase and Dorico on Mac mini - Yes.
Crow Hill samples I think are on the SSD drives.
In the end I just did another installation on MacBook Pro and this time unchecked AU files, and anything other than VST 3.
Kontakt and Spitfire let me point at sample location while I cannot seem to get the same result from Labs+.
The ‘thick plottens’ as they say.
Will talk soon, Jon
Best,
David
