A veteran TV composer seeks a Los Angeles-based part-time studio assistant. For privacy reasons, the composer’s identity will be disclosed to candidates advanced to the interview round. The composer has been vetted by our admins.
Hours required: 15 per week minimum, with potential for additional hours (schedule to be discussed)
Hourly rate: starting rate of $30 USD with annual raises negotiated
Location: a combination of remote work from home, and weekly onsite work at the composer’s studio in Los Angeles. Candidates must be based in Los Angeles with legal authorization to work in the United States.
Occasional work outside standard business hours may be required during deadlines or in emergencies. Candidates are encouraged and expected to pursue freelance work outside of scheduled hours, as long as it does not interfere with core responsibilities.
Composition ability would be considered a strong asset for this role; the right candidate may, in due time, be afforded composing mentorship and co-writing opportunities, as have previous assistants. However it should be emphasized that the primary responsibilities of this role at present are technical and administrative rather than creative.
Responsibilities include:
-setup, proofing, and delivery of Pro Tools sessions
-downloading picture deliveries and interfacing with editorial department
-maintenance, setup, and troubleshooting of studio audio gear and computer systems
-music editing and picture conforms
-Logic template setup and maintenance
-MIDI and audio cleanup
-tracking episodic progress in CueDB and interfacing with additional writers and music editors
-basic sampling and Kontakt instrument scripting
-software and sample library updating and troubleshooting
-archiving and meta-tagging finished episodes
-running studio errands
-additional tasks as needed
Qualifications:
-professional musical training and/or professional experience in film scoring, recording engineering and/or music production
-advanced proficiency in Logic, Pro Tools, Mac OS systems, and major sample library software
-highly motivated, responsible, trustworthy, and able to work without close supervision
-strong interpersonal and communication skills
-ability to support composer’s business needs with professionalism and discretion
-administrative / organizational / project management experience
-previous studio assistant experience an asset
