Very pleasing piano sounds there Cats. It makes me think of dipping one’s hand in sunlit water. ![]()
Do I recognize some asian culture background, special in the last part? Close to Taiwanese or Japanese culture? Would not say it is Korean but some sort of Japanese flavour or Influence up to Metall music was my first imagination I did have,
Shure, more time is for me the most problem. I often do a transcription but do not join or upload. I finalize sometimes after 6 months. This time I think also was a good balance up to 26 April but I did enjoy that one more week was given to do some fine work.
This is lovely, so much feeling ![]()
I agree, I’ve never attempted so large a project! I went for piano plus an occasional couple of other bits too as it seemed more do-able somehow (love your piano sound btw, you use it beautifully). Since you ask, I tried the recommendation of writing away from the picture (needed pencil and paper as my memory is terrible!!) and once I’d worked out my Debussy Satie et al influenced harmony and themey bit I made some variations on the same harmonic structure to make it more manageable in the time. It still felt blooming ambitious! Hurrah for us! ![]()

I really love how you introduced the patchpoint section with its sounds, and your subtle gamelan reference, that’s such a brilliant way to stitch things together!
Thank you v much Ros! ![]()
Time is indeed our most precious commodity. Our modern world seems to keep it in short supply… ![]()
Here’s my submission. It was a huge learning curve and highly satisfying. Good luck to everyone and congratulations for following through. (I almost gave up a couple of times
)
Really loved bringing the piano in on that shot of the empty piano ![]()
Happy Tuesday, everyone!
All these entries are really great! @catsandsound It was certainly interesting creating music for a long video! To answer your question about the approach to it - I sat down and improvised my way through it!
Thank you to @ed.harper for helping with an extra pair of eyes and ears and for the constructive feedback which was positively actioned!
Learned a lot on this one which was a bit of a challenge to get through - but each learning opportunity is a step in the right direction, right?
Here’s mine:
Good listening skills!. It was unintentional, but you’re right! There’s plenty of Japanese influence. A few years living in Japan, probably something of the Koto that I like to play badly and hopefully something from the Japanese music I listen to!
Thanks really liked your choice of instruments and the arrangements!
If I pay for a Sennheiser matched Pair of MKH 416 P48 just 100.- Euros than there is no question what to do. And for shure I need them often. Because i record a lots here local in different places. In case you record a local church choir or orchestra than you need a lots of support microphones. In case of a professional symphony orchestra you need just 3 microphones for recording the conductors tree in Decca. If you go in such a concert you will have the percussion 20 meters away from the conductor and you see they play not what the conductors wipe with his stick in the right hand. They play more early because of the reverb reflections to reach the conductor right in time.
In font of each recording you see the audio assistant walk with 2 mics through the hall just for measuring with 2 Neumann the position of the microphones. Than moving the microphones a very little bit. When I saw this the first time I was total confused what he is doing there. if you get such a normal expensive mic in yours hands does not mean its good. Because the structure and consistent move with the time physicaly. It’s like with a wine. When it gets older it gets much better. Until a point were the wine gets change to much and you can not drink it anymore.
Here is my entry. Maybe in some places music is too “big”, but what else you would expect from fan of metal music and John Williams
.
Not sure about the section about Pierre Boulez. If this were real gig, I would deffinately ask how much director wants my music to reflect hes style, since it sounds wery atonal to most people.
Anyway it was fun challenge and I learned some new skills.
Great price for the MKH 416 P48’s! And it definitely sounds like those Neumann’s are still giving you enjoyment and purpose in capturing the colour and intricacies of your audible world; fantastic!!!
Stay tuneful!
Congratulations for the winner, where can we hear the whole piece?
Well done to the winner
.
I think next weeks podcast, Wednesday 7pm.
Thanks so much! I thought everyone did really well to get these finished and to such a good level. ![]()
