Would anyone like to join me in a collab to create a piece of music using only CHC libraries? The idea is that composer 1 starts it off with a short theme or fragment using 1 or 2 libraries then passes it on to composer 2 who adds another instrument or extends the piece in any way they choose using only 1 or 2 instruments. They pass it on to composer 3 who then adds to the piece as they wish and then passes it on to Composer 5, and so on. To stop it getting too unwieldy we should probably limit it to 5 contributors per version and keep the length to 5 mins max. If any of the versions seem worthy to the CHC team they could use it to support their social media or advertising.
Apart from the maximum length and number of contributors per version the only other rule should be that only CHC instruments are used. I recognise that since we all use different DAWS etc, there may be some difficulty in passing on each iteration of the composition to the next composer in the chain, but audio stems should work for everyone hopefully?
If anyone wants to have a play with this, I have created a short piece using Small String Gestures (Only Fragments D#), and 2 iterations of Pocket Strings (Shorts and Longs, both in orchestral mode). It’s at 115bpm, in 4/4 time, and currently 72 bars long. 3 stems accessible from Dropbox at: Dropbox
Let me know if you are joining in and post your updated version here so that we can hear how it progresses.
Regards,
Ali.

That sounds quite interesting, and those stems are a nice base for all sorts of things. I’d be interested in adding a Crow Hill sound or two to it, I don’t mind in what order though as I’m not sure when I next have time for it, maybe in next couple of weeks or so? But sounds good!

This is a cool idea Ali! I will have a play around tonight and see what I can add to it.

Thanks for having a listen Leigh! There’s no rush. Vishen has said he’ll have a go too, so maybe you can pick up on it after he’s added his bit if that suits you timewise. I’m looking forward to the outcome!
I do have to ask what key you were in
. I couldn’t quite work it out! But I have an idea in mind for the composition.
Alistair, I also like what you have done so far. I’m quite busy at the moment as well but I will join in for a bit of fun, ok buddy. If it’s ok I will continue on after both Leigh and Vishen have added their parts to the composition. Just let me know when it’s my turn and I will try to add a little something to it if I can. I’m not too sure what to add at the moment until Leigh and Vishen have done their parts so I will wait until you give me the go ahead. I feel like I’m entering into the unknown and it seems a little bit daunting to me, but why not try hey.

Hi,
Sounds like a fantastic idea! Would be interested in adding some Concussion drums to it. If that part is not taken? After Michael and I’m also in no hurry to start I’m still doing the Madonna Ray of light competition at the moment.

Feel free on the drums! My idea was to add some Attic Grand to it

That all sounds cool indeed
I’d probs add one of the vaults so I’m sure will be plenty left.. I may be a week or two before ready but don’t mind what order I go in so if anyone is ready when it needs more work do please go ahead!

Hi Vishen,
Apologies for slow response. Have been working.
Due to me being a musical numpty as far as theory etc goes, I couldn’t immediately say what the scale was, but having checked I believe it is C natural minor.
Hope that is helpful?
Regards,
Ali.

Hi Michael!
Thanks for taking the plunge. It does feel quite odd to experiment like this. If you are starting a piece off you hope that it is deemed worthy for others to join in with and you wonder where it will end up in the hands of others. If you are joining later you can feel awkward trying to work with whatever the style has been of the composers that have been tackling it before you. If you are the last one to add to it I guess you might worry that your contribution might upset the whole apple-cart.
I guess it’s a sort of slow-motion jam session. It could be magnificent, or it might be cacophony. Most likely somewhere in between, methinks….
Hi Paul,
Looks like you are booked for the percussion then
Good luck with the Madonna Ray of Light competition!
Regards,
Ali.

Hi Leigh,
Even if someone before you has used an instrument you wanted to use there’s nothing to stop you using the same instrument in a second (or 3rd) instance to add your bit. Hope your sampling project is going well.

Ali.

I might actually help too i am interested (ihave all vaults basically and I have small string gestures (good choice imo), pocket strings, Circuit Drums and cosmos but I also have Key FX hehe)
I’m assuming stems and midi are provided for those who have different DAWS? (MIDI mainly for the tempo mapping
Edit nvm i just saw yu provided details lol

Yeah, I agree Alistair. I’m just gonna play it by ear and see what Vishen and Leigh come up with. Hopefully they will have made it so good that all I will have to do is fill in parts. Who knows where the wind will blow on this one?

Hi all, here are my additions to it. I changed my mind and went with Venom as my instrument (not the drums).
I have also added a listening file with everything together so we can see the progression of each composer as we go along.
It was an interesting one to try a come up with something where you didn’t start with the idea! Hopefully it all works! I’m looking forward to hearing how it goes from here.
