Anyone for chain-composing experiment?

Hi Ali, just to check a couple of details; at start you mentioned max length for the song, but also about extending the song, so do you want it to stay at 2:33? I’m fine either way.

Also do you intend to mix it at the end once you have everyone’s stems? If so I may be careful about FX for mine or provide optional cleaner stems alongside maybe😊

Hi Vishen,

I don’t have Venom, so I didn’t realise it could produce such a wonderful sub-bass. The ARP builds it away from the sombre start into something more lively. It feels as if there should be a big old drop about to cut in at the end which might take the piece off into something quite loud and pacey… we shall have to see what transpires ! I’m looking forward to the next development.

Thanks for making the time to join in Vishen.

HI Leigh,

I was proposing that we shouldn’t go beyond about 5min 30secs, just to keep it manageable, but there’s no reason it should have to be as long as that. The ship is now in your hands and you can steer it in any direction you see fit. Having listened to Vishen’s addition it feels to me like it ought to extend. It felt (to me) is if it was building up into something more energetic than the starting piece but hadn’t yet passed the transition point. If you think otherwise though then that is fine by me. I’m just curious to see how it all goes.

I will have a go at mixing the final product but I don’t have any strong skills in that area (or any other area to be honest… ). I did consider the possibility of challenging Christian and team to show us how it’s done properly (if they have they time). If somebody else in the crows nest fancies doing that aspect then I would be happy to let them. Providing some optional cleaner stems might be a good idea but if you want to achieve a certain sound or effect in your contribution then don’t hold back - let it rip!

You’re welcome Ali! Thanks for putting this together.

Venom is incredibly versatile with the sounds you can get from it, I also wanted to keep all the processing within the library itself as well.

If Leigh hasn’t started it yet I might tweak the arp a bit and narrow the stereo field slightly so there is space on the sides. I did leave it open to extend out but I figured we could do a final edit of it once all the stems are in to make it complete as a song too. I may even do an edited version myself just for fun as well.

Vishen, you have done some really good work with your parts buddy.

Hey does anyone know if the tempo has been tampered with? Near tge end I’m noticing that the synth arp isn’t synced to the 115 tempo and it’s throwing me off, thanks in advance

Hi Mark,

Will have to let Vished answer that. Don’t know if he played the ARP live or programmed it. If live, he could be slightly off sync. I hadn’t noticed any difference, but then I wasn’t trying to match anything to it.. Keep going with your idea regardless and if timing is an issue I’m sure we can sort out a re-take where necessary. :slightly_smiling_face:

Oops.. sorry for typo Vishen.. :slightly_smiling_face:

It might be because the arp is in triplets?

I had a look and, I seem to have done a polyrhythm by accident where the bass isn’t quite following the arp. I can make it follow the bass if that helps?

I’ve updated the arp file now Mark so hopefully it now should sound synced up.

Hi Vishen,

If you can fix that it might help Mark. Thanks v much for offering. :+1::slightly_smiling_face:

No worries Ali, I’ve updated the listening file too if you wouldn’t mind listening if that has made it easier to follow please?

Hi Vishen,

I’ve had a listen and it sounds good. The note spacing seems clearer, so hopefully that will assist Mark. :+1::slightly_smiling_face:

Gonna be checking it out now thanks :purple_heart:

Alright so basically i decided to continue on from the current end (since i was struggling with the arps, my timing is to put it bluntly, crap, so i just draw stuff in. It was much easier)
so the ones I actually used were R&D Strings (vaults) and I actually used Pocket Strings longs (100% orchestral) again, however to prevent confusion I have put “MNT” on the end of the filenames so you know who its from, also used the bass combo thing for the cello range too. If anyone has glass strings PLZ overdub the top lines with that legato, when you hear it you’ll see what i mean.

Alistair, now that Mark has finished his parts. Is it ok if I can now chip in next. Now that the composition has got a kind of theme I think I’ve now got something to work with.
