Much enjoyed Mark! I feel I have walked that very walk myself at different times in my past. The harpsichord sound was perfect for the theme.

It’s a great pleasure to be able to listen, mate, thank you so much for sharing.

Hi,

Happy to be part of the community.

Here my last album, a blend of progressive and psychedelic. I call it progadelic

Your Star Smells Like Mine

Enjoy,

Hi there, not sure if I’m posting this in the right place?

Here’s a song I made that heavily features your latest free Vault, Dulcet Vocal.

Welcome! Yep, this is the place. I like this very much, especially all the little hooky countermelodies that float around in it. There have been a few more Vaults since Dulcet Vocal that you should check out. The Self Help Group was once, maybe still is, an excellent group led by Mark Bruce outta Brighton, UK. That you…?

Greetings from Norwich! Somehow this is what I imagine Syd Barrett might have written if he’d been a young songwriter in the 21st century. Great blend of the progressive and psychedelic styles… progadelic indeed! I guess you are the violinist, Alexander? Thank you for sharing. Favorite track…? Probably Schichten, but that’s just at the moment.

Hehe. Yes it is. Amazed that anyone knows us. This will eventually be an SHG song I’d imagine.

Greetings from Vienna!

Thank you so much for the kind words—that Syd Barrett comparison really means a lot to me. I’ll happily take that as a big compliment.

Yes, you guessed right I did record the violin parts myself. Glad you noticed them.

If you’d like to see all the musicians involved, you can check everything out here on
Bandcamp. And also other music I recorded. A new album is going to come out this June.

And nice choice with Schichten—that one has a special atmosphere for me too, though my favorite tends to change depending on the day.

Thanks again for listening and for your thoughtful comment!

Kicking the tyres of Shit Synth - and leaning into the lo-fi vibes - here’s today’s optimism forecast.

Everything here other than the drum-kit is a Shit Synth patch.

Sounds good Ed! Reminds me tonally of Boards of Canada. I liked the title too

I’m just an old, retired former scientist and university lecturer who makes music for fun, but outside of formal teaching I used to swap musical educations with some of my students. I taught them about jazz, the blues, prog rock, fusion and funk and they taught me about music made after 1990! One of the guys played me ‘The Box’ from the ‘Dead Stars’ album by SHG. Very nice. One of the prerequisites for my former job is having a reasonable memory so….. Reminded me of bands like Sweet Billy Pilgrim and Shearwater, kinda indie meets Americana. More please Mark.

I think I’ve got one using the Harmonium actually. I’ll have a look.

“The Box”, only played that live once. At the album launch for Dead Stars. We had the luxury of strings and a trumpet player so could make it big enough. Also, I forgot the tuning that I wrote that and another song in……

Welcome, there is lots for us to learn, lots for us to listen to, and lots of opportunities for you to share your music whenever on want. You will hopefully enjoy being in part of this community. There are lots of nice and helpful people here. All the best.

I’m making a graphic novel series where the protagonist is an aspiring composer with synesthesia in a very strange and dark world. While I draw pages, I record song ideas on my phone to try later. This is one of them, and they become singles inside the story later. The first book is called SHADOWPLAY: MIDNIGHT SCHOOL, and I’m currently working on the second one.

This is a cool idea! @sam_fonseca I really like how the guitars are playing off of each other!

Hey guys! While releasing singles from my album has been taking a while, I’ve been experimenting with a few things. I tried this acoustic part and I’m really enjoying it, but I can really use ideas/suggestions on where to take it!

P.S. In your opinions, do you think it’s better to have range of material, or a more cohesive brand?

Also, if you haven’t heard @ed.harper put out a new track and it sounds really good!

Thanks Noah!

I think the track you’re talking about is probably this one, which I wrote this week after seeing the awe-inspiring photos sent back from the dark side of the moon by NASA’s Artemis II mission:

(features TCHC libraries Glass Strings and Origins - Shit Synth)

Hello Noah,
I love it,
In my humble opinion I would have a country violin playing a counter melody ? Starting with long notes then mixing it up a bit, Or maybe a female country singer ?
You could turn it into a full blown song
Hope this helps and happy composing,
Michael.

I feel quite intimidated among such excellent composers - although creating comics is my first passion and profession, I can’t help but imagine soundtracks while I draw.

If you get a chance to read SHADOWPLAY (Book 1): MIDNIGHT SCHOOL, I hope it offers something of value, especially for composers and aspiring composers.

This is the soundtrack I made for this book (I used a lot of things Christian worked on - finding his YouTube channel was a revelation back then).
It’s “hidden” with a QR code inside the pages.

Thank you for being so welcoming (I was terrified to post here!)
