I’m retired, living in the woods in Eastern Canada. Back in late '70 I became fascinated with electronic music and built different guitar effects for people as well as analog synth and electronic drums. Owned Juno6, Roland Workstation and Korg M1. Learned to play piano, classical guitar but wouldn’t call myself a musician.
A few years ago got back to “making music”, using DAW and VSTs.
Teaching an “old dog new tricks” isn’t impossible. This became a new hobby for me and actually much more, as it fulfills my passion for creating things.
Long story of how I arrived at music production, but I’ll keep it short for this intro.
Music production is my favorite hobby and my catharsis. It can be challenging to find time for it as my full-time job is raising my kids (after being an electrical engineer for about 25 years).
I had a blast creating my entry for the 80’s theme song contest a few months back.
I always have ideas knocking around my brain, but inevitably when I do get some time and sit in front of my DAW they all disappear.
I’ve been facing similar memory wipe outs and came up with solution. Acquired older second hand Zoom recorder, which even has 4 tracks option and take with me when I go for a morning walk in a woods.
No more lost ideas!
I am currently learning to Build on BanterVR.com which is a socialVR project of SideQuestVR.com
The platform where my 1000+ VR worlds are created is Horizon Worlds but because I am still very experimental I do private tours to unpublished works.
This is only possible if you are in the Meta approved countries. Let me know if you can download it.
Hey all, happy to be here- I’m songwriter-singer, composer-producer down in south-west England- Discovered Crow Hill through Spitfire as a fan of Christians work there and I have the String Murms, very cool stuff. my music/links
Hello everyone, Garrick here from New Zealand. Great to be here!
I’m joining this fine forum because I dabble in music and thought I’d be a brave little soul and do something for the composer challenge.
My process has been, to come up with an idea, throw more ideas at it, and then throw more ideas until it becomes a steaming pile of turgid block chords.
My process this time is to spot the thing after watching a few tutorials, make a tempo map, buy a six pack of beer, smoke cigarettes and rewatch Good Omens.
Plus, I haven’t told my girlfriend I purchased an expensive spitfire library. I am in so much shit. Nah it’ll be fine ha ha.
Hi there
My name is Anton Farmer, I also use the name Anton Ackerbauer
You might see some comments on YouTube as ‘BoogieBear’ too
I’m a former member of the Climax Blues Band (1969-70) so that probably makes me oldest ‘crow’ on here!
Now in my autumn years I love creating and recording music in my home studio and these days I do that simply for the pleasure of doing it
Hello all - I’m Jon. Jazz drummer living in greater NYC area. Long-time aspiring media composer… I also play many other styles of music
I’ve been really enjoying the new CrowHill plugins as they’re very inspiring. I have a studio in my house that I use to record my music, drum tracks and other peoples music as well.
Looking forward to some new writing competitions/challenges! I find them quite enjoyable.
Hello everyone, glad to be making music with all of you!
I love what’s happening at Crow Hill and am happy to count myself among the folks lucky enough to be inspired by what you guys are putting out! I’m a media composer living in New England (Connecticut) and am happy to meet some new friends and to hear and share new music here.
My name is Anthony Verano from New Jersey, USA. I have two main passions - I work professionally in the IT industry and I consider myself a serious hobbyist when it comes to music production. I don’t really have any formal music training other than playing the trumpet throughout my younger years and into high school (both concert and marching band).
I initially took up music production in late 2010 as a self-taught hobby. Initially it was simply a way for me to decompress and keep my mind busy away from the stress of daily life. I experienced several bumps in the road where I felt like giving up, because I didn’t feel I was good enough - and so I thought I was wasting my time. But I kept at it and with the encouragement and help of an L.A. producer who was providing feedback online - I improved and started posting my music online in 2018 under the alias, “Audi Meae”. The name is a very rough translation to - “hear my life”, in Latin. Again, I don’t consider myself a professional, but I do feel at this point that I’ve developed my own sound. I have become addicted to the art and love spending hours upon hours making music everyday.
For me personally, my goal as a music producer / music artist is to simply make music I’m proud of and improve as much as I can - so I can make even better music that I can enjoy and share with others. I don’t make music for the money or fame and I don’t intend to. I feel fortunate to be able to separate the music I create from monetary needs. This has allowed me to explore music unrestrained and without fear.
I feel somewhat like an outcast / outsider in the music community and in general to an extent. I feel too old in certain communities and too young (inexperienced) in others. I don’t have much music theory knowledge and I don’t have a family history of musicians. I’m literally the only one in my family who is pursuing both IT as a profession / career and music as a serious passion. Even still I’m not deterred and I’ve taken advantage of my knowledge and love of computer technologies to aid me in making music.
I have a difficult time identifying my music genre as I don’t really think of genre when making music - I simply go for whatever vibe I’m feeling at the moment. Regardless, my music tends to be mostly electronic-based and has an ambient, nostalgic vibe that ranges from dark to upbeat. I enjoy adding in world instruments, foley and field recordings into my works to create an ethereal soundscape. I also incorporate my own spoken word and sung vocals into my music and have delved into making music to picture.
With all that said, I hope to both learn and contribute as much as I can from this community. I’m always open to help anyway I can, so please don’t hesitate to reach out!
For those that would like to check it out, all my music and links can be found at my official website: https://www.audimeae.com/
I’m excited to be here. I’m the founder of VMAX®, where we push the boundaries of immersive movie experiences.
When I’m not deep in the world of VR filmmaking, you can find me composing music that brings the stories to life. Looking forward to connecting with fellow creatives and sharing ideas! We will definitely be growing our team in 2025 and looking for awesome people like you.
Hi everyone, hello I’m Ajay from Brisbane Australia. First and foremost I’m a drummer, coming up to my 34th year of playing professional actually, but I’m also an audio engineer and studio rat lol. Hoping to connect and network with some like minded people and get to know the music for film community here at Crow Hill.
Looking forward to learning all I can…see you in there!
I’m a music composer/samplist based in Portugal. I’ve been following Christian’s exploits since before Pianobook and was fortunate enough to have been able to be a part of that community as well.
My involvement in the PB community enabled me to then go on to create two Kontakt instruments for Spitfire Audio and continue making my own. I’ve been working on some new sounds, including a new free series that will also be going up on Pianobook.
CHC has been churning out some great sounds, so I’m super excited to see what’s next!
Like many others I have discovered Crow Hill through Spitfire and Pianobook. I am a hobbyist guitar player turned bedroom (well, garden shed) composer. I occasionally put some of my music out as Oberton.
Lovely to meet you all and looking forward to sharing and learning together.
