You should all know about Pocket Strings by now (if not, click here) but did you know we are running a Pocket Strings Composing Challenge?
Details are here but, be quick, the closing date for entries is the 6th of July!

For this challenge, it says to use only the Pocket Strings plugin. Presuming we compose in a DAW, are we allowed to use any filters, eq, etc. that exist within that DAW, any fx plugins we have that are not instruments themselves, or must the creation be completely vanilla Pocket Strings?
Decided to jump into the shallows on this one. My first attempt as it were. May be linking the youtube wrong so apologies up front.
you know what… i didnt think i was gonna make it for this but eh, here’s a little thing - edit: also put the standard sharing link in here
Nicely done! Considering the very short time allowed, this is very good ![]()
Stream Daemonicus Michael J Kiss by Michael J Kiss | Listen online for free on SoundCloud Here is mine, Hope it’s ok.
Michael
I see some lively contenders are posting their work for the Pocket Strings competion. I don’t know what everyone else is thinking or doing right now but the time in the UK is currently 20:40 London GMT. I get the sense that everyone is scuppering around to get their composition entries in for the Pocket Strings competition. It reminds me of how I felt when the clock was ticking to get my disitation for my degree in on time. We haven’t been given much time on this one so all the best folks.
Here’s mine
hope you guys like it! No effects, not even EQ. First time doing a horror-type track
and well…very short time ![]()
Matt I’m not going to sleep properly tonight after listening to that buddy, your composition is going to give me nightmares tonight, ha, ha. You are going to frighten Christian Henson and the Crow Hill Team into submission which will cause them to pick your track as the winner. This is not fare matey, ha, ha. It sounds like you have found your compositional genre because your composition sounds naturally petrifying. You’ve been watching too many spooky films I daren’t fathom how many you have watched. I’m only joking with you buddy. Your track was very imaginative
. I handed mine in this morning. Mines pretty simple, but just like you I did not apply any special effects or any other additional libraries. Purely Pocket Strings. Take it easy and please don’t spook me out again, ok. ha, ha.
sorry… as for your question, no i’m not even a horror movie guy, could count on my hand how many i’ve watched…just went with the ‘daemonic’ theme ![]()
thanks for your good comment, glad to have scared you properly ![]()
This library is quite nice, to be able to do so much with it.
Yeah I agree. Tell me if I’m wrong but there seems to be some sounds on certain keys which sound kind of percussive like on some of the keys. I’m not too sure if they are Bartok or Co legno sounding.
Very Good J. All the best.
Very good Mick. You can now relax. The pressure is off. All the best.
Thank you Michael, All though after listening to Matt’s brilliant piece I think mine is a good Daemon

The percussive sound hits at velocity 120 to 127 depending if your preset allows it not sure if its on shorts or plucked, i think both does ![]()
These are all fabulous! I think I might have missed the point a bit with mine… now I read again… Demonic… hmmmmmmm… oops! My demon has spent the afternoon having a little party with his chums back in the early noughties - couldn’t resist it with those synths! ![]()
It’s a brilliant library isn’t it ![]()
Perfect challenge to keep us procrastinators on our toes. ![]()
This is my one, I’m not sure about the mix but it is in!
Nice, Vishen! You’ve found plenty of interesting textures and have used them very well.
Very impressive to get that out of the library! Great stuff!
