Looking for serious critical yet constructive critique on how to improve this audio track.
Many thanks

Called “Ospreys” as two were in the garden last Saturday and on hearing the high pitched cry I launched into recording this track!

I can’t seem to find that track when I click the link!
Hi All ![]()
I have just completed a song using CrowHill plugins again, this time for a competition from another community that I posted about here on the Network (InTheMix Kennedy Wilde community challenge).
I have used pocket strings in the 2nd and 4th Chorus instances (alongside BBC violins on the left and Acid synth on the right), and another use of Acid synth towards the end too.
And as per Christian’s suggestions about the use of Reverb yesterday on the Fellowship podcast, I decided to push it a lot more bravely than I would for the Pocket Strings plugin…
I also added an extra master reverb to the track which, clearly had been missing before! I also re-assessed other reverbs and their wet/dry mix and tail lengths etc. And I’m very happy with the improvements it made to the emotion and feel, would definitely recommend!
I also used Demon Drop for some of the percussion (along with Kong and a couple of bits from my sampled percussion from the Venom submission) and Vaults R&D strings too. Other than that some Logic and NI synths.
And some of the original parts and vocals have had treatment from Piano Rack FX, which is definitely becoming a staple plugin for me ![]()
Hope you enjoy it! Here is the Soundcloud link:
That’s a bit critical haha—- Thanks for the feedback!

Hey everyone! I was wondering if I could get some feedback on this track. I am not sure if it is done or if it can grow more: Stream Jade by Noah Stockton | Listen online for free on SoundCloud
Hey Noah,
Thank you for sharing this piece! I’m happy to offer some feedback, but I’m not sure what context this intended for, so I’ll have to be fairly general. First of all, I think it’s very beautiful, vulnerable sounding track. I really enjoy how it ebbs and flows as it goes on. Since you are asking if it can grow more, I think there is a spars-ness to it, that on one hand suggests room for more growth, but it also adds to the character it has right now.
So I think it’s more of a question of what do YOU want it to be, or feel like. Is intimacy and space what you want to say? Or even if it is, is there something more you’d like to say, while maintaining that atmosphere?
On a more technical level, there is a lot of space/room in the mix. I can only assume that’s intentional and I think it adds a very fitting…I would call it “lo-fi” nature to the overall sound. But I am wondering if you might want to try a more crisp focused mix with more clarity. It just strikes my as a piece where that might also sound really good. Again, without knowing your intention for this, I can’t really if my suggestion is helping, sorry ![]()
A fabulous track, I don’t think I’d change anything. If I’m being cruel however, I’d add a few tiny volume automations to control some transient peaks, and maybe work more with the distance and reverb in the percussion when it picks up. Thanks for sharing!
I got my hands on some really great sounding horror FX (for Soundpaint) and somehow came up with this piece which was inspired by Douglas Pipes’ score for Monster House. It’s a villain theme for a music world I’m building up.
I’d love to hear thoughts ^^ ![]()
Nice clarity and dynamics. Good arrangement too.
I like the use of Storm cello. Definitely has a SOUND!
Nice vibe Matt. That Storm Cello sounds good! I have TG’s acoustic cello.
Thanks Steve! Yeah it does sound good! Veery versatile and lots of sound design too. A very different tone than the acoustic one, but honestly both are simply awesome.
Amor In Circuitu Est, Omnia Vincet Amor - a cherubic choir plus a hint of Electronica
Hi
I wanted to play with the idea of a cherubic choir singing in Latin as Electronica creeps in.
Thanks for listening.
As always, feedback and constructive criticism is very welcomed and appreciated.
Lee
Hi Lee,
Lovely idea that you’ve put together here. I’ve always liked it when the more analog and synthetic sound worlds meet, abd your track obviously hits that spot. I also really like the long progressive development. Almost like a constant rise in tension and intensity rather than a more “song-like” structure. But still with an ebb and flow to it.
The constructive feedback is of course subjective, and how I’d change things. Towards the second half of the track, the choir entries seem very sudden to me, and I’d personally like a bit more of swell to it. Maybe through a staggered entry of layers of it, or through maintaining a more subtle presence of the choir during the “pauses”, if you know what I mean.
I would also change the mix a bit. I’d like everything to be a bit more glued together, and the levels to be more homogeneous. I think slightly more width would suit the mix, and maybe a bit more special distribution of the different elements.
That’s what I have so far ![]()
I really like the track in general.
Hope that’s somewhat helpful to you and thanks for sharing what you are working on ![]()
Cheers

Hi Merlin
Thanks for that - really well thought out comments. I really appreciate it.
I’ll take your comments on board.
Thank you
best
Lee
Lee I like the harmonic structure a chord progression as the music build up. Bye the way, what does the title of the song mean in English?
Thanks Steve and welcome to the community.
Thank you for the positive feedback. It’s most appreciated.

Hi Noah, your track has a nice Oriental theme to it. It’s also got an Olafur Arnalds vibe to it. I also like how used the bird sounds in parts of your track. Were the bird sounds used from Habitat Orchestral Tools library?
