This was my entry for the Venom Trailer re-score Composer challenge.

All sounds derived from objects found in my kitchen, apart from a vocal chant by me, then mangled via effects in my DAW (FL Studio). Some were also stretched and processed via “Paulstretch” an ancient bit of freeware in the internet that can stretch and add harmonics to any bit of sound. The organ-like sound used in this track was made using this.

I ended up making way more sounds than I actually used in the track, so I will try to use this in future projects.

Nostalgia - The Mirror’s Longing, the second orchestral hybrid from the 11-piece series Roads Through the Mirror.

Each week up to the premiere, I’ll reveal one of four pivotal moments, teasing the full 20-part journey that explores memory, despair, and enlightenment through the lens of a mirror.

This week Healing Echoes: A tender pivot toward peace, where past wounds soften under the glow of acceptance. Flute, strings and a cimbasso cradle the listener, offering a universal balm of hope and forgiveness that resonates deep within.

In this part i’m using my favourite brass instrument, the cimbasso. Also present are Murmurations - Solitude Smile and a piccolo used with Hainbach Dials.

The series Roads Through the Mirror fuses traditional orchestral samples with the experimental, vintage-inspired sound of Hainbach’s plugins — think lo-fi resonance, analog warmth, and cosmic echoes that elevate every note.

Thoughts, comments and reflections always welcome.

Thank you for your kind interest in my music.

Regards,

Niclas

Here is my Entry for the crow hill rescoring trailer.
My planned parrot based music sadly looks like it will never happen, after being described as parrot madness by girlfriend. So here what I did instead. it’s darker and bit away from what I would usually do, but I really wanted to match the vibe of the trailer

Materials used

  • Draining board
  • Flying tiger - resistance band
  • The sound of microphone jack being plugged in
  • Dress making scissors

I’ve not seen the film Dune but your track sounds like I could be on the planet Arrakis. It sounds seductively atmospheric.

This is really good Leigh

I think the cello is most possibly my favourite instrument. It’s most definitely in my top 3 instruments. I love the serenity of this piece Ed.

Hi, my latest Crow Hill inspired creation!

Inspired by the Venom Trailer Rescore Composing Challenge.
I created an instrument from an ambient audio recording in my local park, in which I captured a distant sound of a glockenspiel being hit in a play area. Put through RX and noise reduction and then into Logic’s sampler it became the opening instrument on this piece. Other Crow Hill instruments used Venom, Demon Drop, Guitar Hive, Glass Strings and Vertical Piano.

Hey all, so recently I scored a short film for my friend called “The Wolf and the Vixen” and today I released the score! I’d love it if you could give it a listen ^^ We got real musicians on for guitarist and a solo violinist. This also features a couple of crow hill stuff (Vaults Orchestral FX for one part in the first track and small string gestures for a gliss down in the first track)
In the description of the videos you can find the film too if you wanna watch! It’s really emotional so probably have a tissue box beside you.

Hi everyone

Here is my entry for the Venom re-score which I’ve just emailed in to Crowhill. (Apologies YouTube made it unnecessarily quiet )

I’m currently doing a youtube video for how I manipulated the sounds too, just for good practice, and as it was such an inspiring competition! I’d had Logic sampler on my “to do” list since forever and so glad I’ve now started to use it.

I used things like bottle lids dropping on hob plates, hitting a door with fist for kick drums, toilet seat dropping for the main snare, tapping deodorant can and hitting 2 litre water bottle for other percussion. A few other things, and also a couple of vocal techniques for good measure, which turned out to be translatable into so many different sounds including bass and melody. Also blowing into small beer bottle for a couple of different sounds, and an electric toothbrush as well!

Just used the Logic sampler and Logic FX, but also Bluecat Audio’s free chorus and flanger as well.

Hope you enjoy!

Kia ora from New Zealand. Loving a lot of what I hear on this channel, very inspiring. I’ve been working on some new soundtracky stuff, using the Vaults Celeste as a primary driver, with the swarm turned all the way up. It’s absolutely gorgeous, especially when blended with other stuff. Hope you enjoy and if anyone fancies some form of collab with the other side of the world, I’d love to hear from you.

Here’s the five tracks I’ve created so far on Soundcloud - more to come soon

Great stuff - love the dynamics you’ve used. Feels like an old fashioned score, in the best possible way

Thank you, I was going for a mix between those classic scores and blending that with more contemporary things (like the weird strings FX etc) the film was so fun to score because it was somewhat challenging as it had 0 dialogue.

Nostaliga - The Mirror’s Longing a is now available for listening on this link.

Sharing my entry for the Venom Rescore “Trailer Trash” Contest

I ended up recording hundreds of sounds for this project, most of which I didn’t use, but enough to turn into a trailer toolkit, that I will probably map out in Audiomodern Soundbox (free sampler) and share as a Soundbox expansion pack on Pianobook. This was a very fun challenge to work on and forced you to think outside the box.

FX Plug-ins Used: Stock Ableton Live 12 Gate FX (as a trance gate and noise gate), Stock Ableton Live 12 Compressor and Delay.

Sounds Used:

Radio static recordings from a clock radio looped and time-stretched, then put through a trance gate FX.

Electrical substation power line corona “hum” noise recordings sampled into stock Ableton Sampler and played on two keys, pitched down -12 semitones and looped, up +4 semitones and looped…
All put through a trance gate FX.

Taser “shock” sound FX.

Doorbell sound FX pitched down and slowed down.

SUV window rolling down sound FX (2017 Nissan Rogue)

My breath pitched down -12 semitones and used as a snare.

Banging on a washing machine with my fist used as a sub kick, pitched down and put through an extreme low-pass filter EQ.

My own vocals “chopped and screwed” pitch shifted down, looped and slowed down slightly.

Sound Design Palette Keywords = Cold, Electrical, Underworld, Chthonic

All sounds recorded on my iPhone.
