Introduce yourself

Hello! I’m Archi Enness from the UK - south west England. I’m a composer making atmospheric music crossing genres: ambient, cinematic, electronic, soundscape, neoclassical, a bit of trance, and slightly off-kilter. Just released my first full-length album on New Year’s Day: Moon Scape. I’m available on all major streamers but also BandCamp which has some of my older, quirkier stuff too. https://archienness.bandcamp.com/

Some of my tracks end up as video soundtracks - I really want to do more of that. Just need to meet some film-makers! I’m interested in collaboration if styles really mesh.

I’m new to the Crow Hill instruments and have been hoovering up the Vaults in the first instance.

heh thanks, I do I suppose when I have free time, but most of it is spent on requests these days which is good and bad! Luckily a decent amount of what I’m asked for overlaps with what I’d like to do anyway so it’s ok!

Hi all,
I’m Gary from Norwich, I post my music under the name Maurus McNeil. The name was a character in a story I wrote some time ago. The story was s##t, so I deleted it, but Maurus wouldn’t go away. So I adopted him as my producer alta-ego.
I’ve been following the videos and development of Crow Hill since the first Vaults release caught my eye. I’m the proud owner of several of the fabulous instruments and all the vaults. I’ve been looking or a good cello sound for years, so I pounced on Tina (metaphorically speaking) without a pause. Worth every penny. For my sins I’m also an avid bodhran player so what a wonderful extra gift the latest vaults release is. I’ve not produced anything with that yet, but here’s my first foray with the cello as the focus.

it’s taken me a while to get the hang of discord. But better late than never I guess.
sorry for the essay - call it excitment…! Looking forward to reading through everything and listening to the tracks posted here.
love it.

I borrowed this from my post over on VI- Control as it sums things up quite nicely. I am very glad to have discovered this part of Crow Hill and look forward to learning and sharing together.

I started playing piano when I was around 5 years old at my local church. As I grew older I found myself playing for local quartets and soloists. Our church would have camp meetings where I would rotate between Hammond B-3 and acoustic piano during the week-long services. Some of my first jobs were working in the mall and demonstrating those “anyone can play, amazing” 1-finger accompaniment organs like the Lowery Genie or Baldwin Fun Machine; I was a much better player than a salesman.

Not having any formal training to speak of, I mostly picked up everything by ear.
While in my Junior year of High School I found myself in Jazz Band sitting behind a Fender Rhodes suitcase and my life would never be the same after that. Mr. Frank the band director took an interest in me and guided me in learning about reading chord charts and with visiting musicians such as Jamie Abersold and a couple of my best friends; one thinking he was Neil Pert and the other Alex Liefson it was a true education all around. Playing “Subdivisions” were some of my best memories in learning how to play in those odd meters.

I had the honor of accompanying Larnelle Harris who is a five time Grammy, and 11 time Dove Award recipient for over 20 years. When covid changed the world as we know it, Larnelle took that opportunity to retire and I was found looking for ways to stay creative and productive, which led me to begin my Joyful Journeys on YouTube where you can come along for some inspiring times. It is possible because of the kind and generous support from many developers like The Crow Hill Company (thank you).

Today I look back on so many amazing memories and opportunities that have taken me around the world doing what I love to do. I am very humbled to be a part of this group and hope that I can continue to contribute and assist when I can.

Thanks again and please let me know if I can ever be of service to any of you in the future.
Joyfully Yours,
Simeon

Well stated Christian, social media has lost me for trustworthy and interesting content- having more focused learning & discussions here!

Hello, weird fishes out there in Interneland! I’m Mark Lee Østerlund, known among most of my internet friends as “Scetch” - I’m kindof a hoarder of obscure skills and knowhow, meaning I’ve well on my way to becoming a one-man band. Currently, I’m warming up to doing the Aarhus Symphony/Filmby Aarhus’s film music competition, CUE. While I’m not going too hard into music, I still enjoy it, and hope to, if not be a fulll time assistant, at least will get the chance to play along with some of you supertalentet guys and girls!

Cheers! -S

Hi I’m Steve Warner

Although I’ve been DJing for the past 26 years I only added it to my name, when releasing music, because everytime I did an online search 'Steve Wariner’would pop up. Anyhoo, I’ve been writing electronic music since forever with a deep passion for adding orchestrated elements to each, in a cinematic way. I am not classically trained (except for watching 80’s TV and movies) and my only training in electronica is watching Jean Michel Jarre in ‘Redezvous Houston’ in 1986, on the old grey whistle test. Well that and the 26 years playing this stuff in clubs and pubs all over the UK, with a brief stint in Ibiza in 2006.

My biggest issue with starting on synths in 1986, apart from the prohibitive cost, was they were never regarded as true instruments. When samplers eventually hit the scene everything changed. I worked behind a bar in Destiny nightclub (Glasgow) in 1999 to 2005, to see what elements of a song impacted the dancefloor, moved onto lighting and fell into DJing (I’m still here).

Whilst working in a community Arts Project I was asked to put a concert proposal together for Glasgow City Council. A complete feasability study, stage design and a full track listing later, not to mention the Scottish Arts Council re-branding several times, GCC decided to put individual musicians in pubs instead of a large open air event. That killed everything. The passion. I moved onto community radio for 8 years and left, 2 years ago, to start writing again.

So here we are; I’ve released a few tracks through distrokid, so I’m available on spotify & whatever. My passion for writing is through the roof and I really want to know how to orchestrate and get into the mindset of the composer and hopeful incorporate that into my music.

I know what I do isn’t everyone’s cup of Tea, especially in Crow Hill, but I’d appreciate any feedback. This is a link in the 'Share your work area, to an unfinished work, if you are interested. Oh, and I am open to collaboration.

Hi,

I’m Paul, a self taught composer from England. My screen name is Cats&sounds. I’ve always been hopelessly addicted to music.Especially music from Japanese movies. Film composers that I admire include: Ryuichi Sakamoto, Henry Mancini, Nino Rota, Fracis Lai, Ennio Morricone, Hans Zimmer. I like to play the guitar, the koto and the shamisen and any other instrument find not that well , but really like to compose.

Here is a song I wrote recently. I used CrowHill Nocturnal gestures in it. Anyway really enjoy the CrowHill products and look forward to being part of the community. Stream Care - Cats&sound by Catsandsound | Listen online for free on SoundCloud

Hey Everyone!
My name is Kamil, I am based out of Krakow, Poland. I’ve been producing music for 6 years now as a hobby. Everytime I think this can’t ever pay my bills by making music, I’m being dragged back to it, because I just can’t stop. Maybe one day this will be my part-time gig. I love to learn about how to create and master the craft and I know this community is going to help me with just that. Plus, Christian is a fun gy to listen to so my hopes are up  Best to you all!

My humble portfolio can be found here:

Hii… im Rafael. English is not my native language (when I have to write), although when reading or listening I have no problems.
Hats off to a team or company that has transparency, passion and noble dreams or objectives. First time on my 34 years to see those 3 things alltogether on a team.
First time also joining a forum/community/posting/communicating. Very glad I recently found you and this community you made.
Nowadays I only have very little grains of sands to collaborate, but I´ll never forget the urge to throw at you a sand castle the first moment I can. To do that, almost always we need a name or reputation (although there are exceptions), but I am here for it, to grow with you, and on the future to retribute what was given with a kind heart.
Thank you for all you done and also for the inspiration you pour on people and the growth you provide with tools, sharing and knowledge, etc. See you around!!

I’m T. Patrick O’Hara, known in some circles as cmopatrick (long story, that). I live in Salem, Oregon, USA.

Bit of a JoATMoN (Jack of All Trades, Master of None), and quite familiar with late diagnosis ADHD (yup, that’s me, too).

Music is my greatest love, especially whistles, harmonicas, flute, and bodhran. I also dabble in/with guitar, am a novice with keys, and tinker with just about any percussion except traditional drum kits. I also play around with instrument plugins (I have WAY too many, but tinker with making what I like to hear and occasionally do pieces for friends/famiy/competitions). I’m learning to take my favorite sounds and make instruments from them (currently struggling with sounds from my backyard, but I’ll get there). I have WAY too many guitar stomp boxes that I tinker with for just about any sound I make (not just guitar).

I’ve used several DAWs over the years (Reaper. Abelton, ProTools), using Cubase now (not really an expert with any of them). PC person, have built my own since my first video production box back in the early '90s. Oh, and I VERY occasionally dj with Traktor and very simple kit.

I’m probably most accurately described as a truely amatuer (do it for the love of it) media producer.

Beyond that, the list gets TL:DR long… full-time caretaker for my wife (please don’t ask what), occasional writer (fanfiction novels back in the day and a couple of unpublished standalone novels), former careers in IT and transportation (17 years each, oddly enough), US Veteran, still attending the University of Hard Knocks (never graduated), dog person (we have just one Golden Retriever right now), and lots and lots of other stuff…

Hello, I’ve just been made a “member” so I guess it’s time I said hi to everyone rather than just lurking!
I’m Rachel, classically trained flautist, piano player, aspiring composer, just spent the last year getting back to music after a too long break doing life stuff… hasn’t the last 25 years produced some fabulous new toys! I keep thinking wouldn’t it be cool if you could… and finding a button to do just that! And so much generous advice, support and feedback on the internet!! Loving it all
Really enjoying being a part of this community - it reminds me of sitting in the studio as the chief tea maker and patch bay solderer just starting out… that time of ‘day’ when everyone is sitting around after a good recording session putting the world to rights, and I’m sitting quietly keeping my ears peeled for wisdom from everyone!
Lots to catch up on, and listening to everyone’s fabulous music and hearing all your stories has been a great way to sharpen up my own small efforts and find out all those unknown unknowns - thanks everyone! One day I hope to be able to give something back, but in the meantime I’ll be the one popping in from time to time, floating around making tea and keeping notes…

I’ve just taken a look at some of your work on YouTube Ros. I really like what you’ve done. :grinning:

Hi my name is Michael Urquhart. I’m not very good at this kind of introductory thing so here I go. I currently live in the UK. My story is a little bit similar to Ros. When I was around about 17-18 I found a creative interest in learning to play the alto and tenor saxophone. When I was roughly about 21 I went to a local music college in my area to study the subject of music for about 3 years studying baroque and classical music especially. After completing that at the age of roughly 24-25 I decided to go to University but I was in a dilemma whether to do a degree in music or a different subject. I decided to do a degree in a totally different subject from music. So from roughly the age of 25 I placed my musical abilities and aspirations on hold. I threw all of my baroque and classical books away in the bin because I believed at the time that I had no time to practice properly. For roughly the last 29 years I hadnt touched any form of music due to family life issues and have been working in a non musical industry. I currently work very long hours usually 11 hours a day, five days a week. I’ve been pestered by my family members and friends over the last 29 years to get back into performing music but I have always said to them no because I believe I have lost my performing skillset and that the lack of time and dedication needed is too immense. However, in 2024 after still being pestered constantly especially by my dear old mother I decided to do the next best thing. I decided to buy myself a keyboard, a DAW, a microphone and some music VST plugin libraries and do a bit of composing as a hobby for my own personal enjoyment and not taking things seriously. Thus from 2024 my journey so far has been and still is a steep learning curve. Iv’e spent the last 18 months trying to learn my DAW and I’m tentatively and gradually trying to work my way back through learning to compositional arrangement again. This time I learning and composing from my heart and trying not to get bogged down too much in theoretical stuff too much. At the moment I’m very tentative about sharing my work because I don’t feel it is good enough to be heard but friends who have listened encourage me to get it out their on Soundcloud. Thus I see myself as a compositional hobbyist whose got a lot to learn and re-develop. I now try to find as much spare time as possible which is minimal throughout the week to concentrate on my musical hobby. For me, creating music over the last year and a half has been a blessing and a way of escaping the trappings of life. When I hear on the Crow Hill share your music platform the compositional work of many aspiring and talented composers like Ros and the many other composers on the Crow Hill platform I am in awe and I feel miniscure. This is something that maybe everyone experiences, I don’t know. I just see myself as a baby Crow Hill Member who needs to develop and I’m taking little steps day by day. And maybe I can touch a heart and put a smile on some face if they hear my music and thus maybe inspire someone else on the Crow Hill share your music platform to be the next big thing. Stay creative folks and keep inspiring the world with your music.
